The MoonRISe-3 Clinical Research Study
Learn about the MoonRISe-3 research study of an investigational drug delivery system for
adults with high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (HR-NMIBC)
The purpose of the study is to evaluate an investigational drug delivery system and its effects on bladder cancer. The investigational drug delivery system is not approved for use by any regulatory authority and is only available to patients in research studies like this one.
You may be considered for the MoonRISe-3 study, if you are 18 years of age or older:
- Have been diagnosed with high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer after receiving Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)
- Are ineligible for or refuse radical cystectomy (surgery to remove the bladder)
The goal of this study is to find out if the investigational drug delivery system may help people whose bladder cancer has come back after BCG treatment & prevent it from coming back again.
Researchers want to see how well this treatment works, how safe it is, and how it compares to regular bladder chemotherapy.
Bladder cancer in general arises from the inner lining cells which are in direct contact with urine (called urothelial or transitional cells).
Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, or NIMBC, is the early stage of bladder cancer where the tumor has yet grown only within the mucous membrane of the bladder. Thus, it has not yet grown into the thicker muscle wall of the bladder.
About 70% of cancers are discovered in this early stage.
